That girl, she's a has been.

I feel like my graduating class has always been gypped. When I graduated from elementary school they put in a new playground. When I graduated from middle school they put in a goddamn greenhouse! When I graduated high school they put in a turf field and when I graduated college they started learning real life shit. I feel like such a old woman sometimes. It seems that every year they just know more and more. My first two years of college focused on film. Learning analog is an experience I would never trade. Having the skill to take a photograph, ACTUALLY knowing what you're doing instead of just looking at the back of your camera and adjusting well is a skill I am very proud to posses however, it's a skill that is very very rarely needed in my industry. Yes i can load 4x5 backs in the blink of an eye but open up illustrator and I'm a lost puppy. Knowing Adobe Creative Suite is the new knowing how to read for kids now. Just the other day I was riding the A train and a group of very high pitched high school girls got on. They were discussing their art class which involved photoshop. They were talking about blending modes that I learned my freshman year of college. I can photoshop like a pro, and have made some good money doing it but the rest of that stuff? It's never been a necessity so it was never in the curriculum. I'm old news people. I prefer crafting things by hand. Hand me some scissors and a pack of construction paper and I will go to town on making you the most kick ass calender you have ever seen. Give me indesign and I can't guarantee what you'll end up with.
